By Ken Ayers

For those new to hunting and looking to get into some Whitetail Deer hunting, the following will offer some basic hints and tips and how to get started with gear and locating hunting grounds, as well as strategies for your hunt.

You will need to first think about what sort of hunt you would like to be on. If you want to do some bow hunting then this will involve getting up close and personal with nature and a little more stealth and cunning. If you are looking for a bit more fun with your friends then you should consider using a rifle and a more direct approach. For those who are keen for a more direct approach but want more of a challenge, then you could do some muzzle-loading.

After deciding on what sort of Whitetail Deer hunter you wish to be, you will need to get hold of the gear appropriate to your style. If you have decided to do bow hunting then you will need to dress appropriately with a form of camouflage depending on the terrain and season. You may also need to learn how to use certain hunting tools to help, such as calls and scents.

Muzzle-loading and rifle hunts are similar in that these hunting methods don't require as much stealth as hunting with a bow. They also require the same sort of attire which can be anything from mid-weather to cold-weather.

Once you have the appropriate clothing and necessary tools, you need to find a suitable hunting ground which can potentially be an issue. The best bet is to simply find some public grounds that will allow you to hunt. If you are lucky enough to have suitable land yourself then you certainly need to take advantage of that, or else look to see if a friend does have the right sort of location.

After locating the grounds, you simply need to go and and get hunting. In order to become a decent hunter and to improve your skills, knowledge and experience, you need to get active.

Once you have got yourself out there, then there are a number of different whitetail deer hunting strategies that you could employ. These strategies, of course, depend heavily on what sort of hunt you are on. You could be sat in a tree stand using scents and calls, or you might be using certain member of a group to flush out a deer for another party. Either way, it is good to try a little of everything to see which sits best with you. - 31499
