For example, there are states that only allow you to buy the spray from a licensed firearms dealer. In New York, you must purchase either from a licensed pharmacist or from a licensed dealer in firearms.

States may also restrict the concentration of the pepper and some also restrict the size of the container that you can carry on your person.
