Bow Hunting Tips

By James Persenton

To say the least hunting with a bow is a bit more challenging that hunting with a rifle. There many things you need to master before you become a successful bow hunter and the most important of them is blending in with the forest.

When out hunting you will stick out like a shore thumb and will never get a good chance to fire that bow of yours if you don't find a good hiding spot. Experienced hunters know well that deer, especially during the end of the hunting season, are extremely cautious when entering or approaching open hardwoods.

The best place to position yourself when bow hunting is in forested areas. During the fall though when leafs have fallen you will need to find areas with pine. The good thing is that prey like deer also feel more comfortable and carefree when entering such areas.

Even if you have the best compound bow on the market you wont be able to shoot anything that is over 5o meters away. Therefore, it is very important that you position yourself close enough to the prey so that you can make a kill. Hiding at the right spot is imperative.

Staying alert while you hunt is very important. In most cases and if you stay alert you will be able to hear the prey way before you see it. If you are positioned correctly and the prey wont hear, see or smell you then you will have a very good chance of having it approach close enough so you can make a kill.

Certain types of prey like deer are renown to have the ability to walk by almost undetected. You are not the only one hunting for that deer. Sometimes though the only thing you might hear is a twig snapping or leafs moving. It is not a bad idea to bring special hearing equipment with you to amplify your hearing.

A good bow, arrows, warm clothing, boots and patience are a few things you will need to bring along with you on your bow hunting trip. If you have the right gear with you and you are accustomed with your well functioning bow you should be able to do well on your bow hunting trip. - 31499
